Hello! Hope you are all having a great weekend. It’s been sunny and warm here in our corner of Maryland – a nice winter break, if you will. Fingers and toes crossed for no snow days this week! My Canadian friends are rolling their eyes as they read this, and rightly so.
I’m pretty sure there are different varieties of this project, but in case you have not seen any, here is a fun and easy way to dress up a paper bag and coordinate them with tags. I usually buy these bags in various sizes and colors to tuck away in my craft stash. When an event pops up, I just whip them out and arm myself with paper punches. (more…)
Hello and Happy Friday! If you own an iPad, and love lettering and fonts as much as I do, then iFontMaker is the app for you. You can turn your lovely letters into your own font in a matter of minutes. Elsie from A Beautiful Mess does a great how-to here. What will your new font look like?
Hello! Have you seen The Lego Movie? Then you recognize these lyrics? The song sticks, and I’m okay with that. We saw the movie over the weekend and I have to admit that I adore Will Ferrell. I will snort and laugh in the most unladylike manner in any movie he graces. He makes me giggle like no other. From what I have read, most lettering projects usually involve practicing letters first, then a phrase. This song came to mind for me. Hee.
Okay, so a few of my friends and family have asked me about my approach to lettering. I have gathered some of my fave blogs and lettering artists / calligraphers to share with you. I can’t find words to describe how superb they are:
I have not shown you anything in pointed pen yet. As soon as I collect my materials and take a course (or 2), I promise to share my attempts. For anything we do it really all boils down to practice. Have fun with it! Can’t wait to see what you do.
Made a mistake? Don’t despair! Use a craft knife to correct any mistakes. The key is to gently scratch the surface of the paper until the ink is off.
For those of you who do not know me, I was born and raised in the lovely little gem of the Caribbean known as Trinidad and Tobago. My best memories are associated with this time of year – the Carnival season. The weather is superb, the parties and music go on forever and … the food. I need a separate post on the food…Delish. For now, here is a little something for those of you hosting a Trini party, or any party coming to think of it. A way to label your sumptuous dishes and a conversation starter for the story of its yummy origins. (more…)
A quick post to share my new fave app – Waterlogue. I’m seeing beautiful images in watercolor popping up a lot – I hope this trend will stand the test of time! If you have an iPhone or iPad, Waterlogue takes an image and coverts it to its version of a watercolor image. Pretty handy and not crazy expensive. Today’s feature image was taken with my iPhone and converted a la Waterlogue. If you look closely at my favicon (the teeny weeny icon next to my url in your browser.. yep, same image. How did I do it? I placed a fake flower and leaves onto white poster board, snapped the pic and Waterlogue did the rest. What pretty pictures will you make today? Happy snapping!
