Happy May! I’m just soaking up this heat wave that’s passing through Maryland and hoping it stays until fall. To celebrate, I’m using a new material that reminds me of my Caribbean roots and patio weather – rattan! These DIY Faux Succulent Rattan Planters will sit prettily on your desk or shelves with a pop of color and texture. Want to make your own? Read on for the tutorial!
What You Need – DIY Faux Succulent Rattan Planters
- Faux potted succulents – I got mine at Michaels, but you can get something similar online here
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Colored cardstock
- Hot glue gun
- Cane webbing (rattan)
*This post contains affiliate links for products that I use and love!
Instructions – DIY Faux Succulent Rattan Planters
- Use your pencil to trace one side of your succulent planter on to the colored cardstock
- Repeat for as many sides of planters you have (I did not do the bottoms of the planters)
- Cut the shapes out
- Do the same for the cane webbing (rattan) – trace the shapes and cut each out
- Glue the cardstock to the planters
- Glue the cane webbing (rattan) to the cardstock – I used the lighter side of the rattan to face outward
And you are done! A quick and pretty way to dress up your desk or shelf! Tell me in the comments below – which colors will you use?

I didn’t realize you could get sheets of cane webbing. That’s neat!
I love that it comes nice and flat – much easier to work with!
This is the cutest way to use rattan <3
Thanks so much, Cat! xoxoxox
