As you may know, I love rattan. If you’re looking for a quick, easy and budget friendly way to incorporate a modern twist on an old material into your home decor, then you need to check out How To Make Magnets With Rattan. You only need 3 materials and 5 minutes to make these magnets – I promise! Read on for the tutorial!
But First, What is Rattan?
Rattan is a type of vine-like palm grown in Asia, Malaysia, and China. It grows rapidly in the shape of a pole and can grow up to about one hundred feet. Unlike bamboo which is hollow in the center, Rattan is solid. It is considered one of the strongest wood materials which makes it perfect for furniture making. Since it also has the ability to be bent and curved, rattan can take on many gorgeous shapes and forms. The wood itself has a stunning array of brown and gold hues that brings a natural tropical vibe to any room or outdoor space
What is the difference between Rattan and Wicker?
Where does wicker fit in? Although rattan and wicker have been used interchangeably, a fun fact is that wicker is the actual weaving process and not a material. For example, the wicker process can be applied to rattan to make furniture.
The Rattan Trend
Rattan was a huge trend back in the 70s. Given my upbringing in the Caribbean, it personally brings back a sense of nostalgia for all things natural and textured incorporated into home decor. In the past few years, wicker has made a resurgence in modern new ways that still give us the relaxed and tropical memories of times past. The beauty of this new and updated rattan trend is that we are seeing more budget friendly rattan home decor items that we can make on our own or purchase for our homes, office or outdoor space. Speaking of DIY, let’s get on with our quick and easy one-step tutorial!
